What's on at the Seaport

The district runs on a seasonal calendar rather than a steady one, and almost everything here is weather-shaped.

This page explains the shape of the Seaport's year rather than listing what is on tonight. Programming changes hands and changes format regularly, so any fixed list here would be wrong within months. Where to check for current listings is at the bottom.

The summer season

The rooftop of Pier 17 is the district's main venue, and it is a genuinely good one — an open-air stage with the Brooklyn Bridge and the East River behind the performers. The concert season runs through the warm months and books touring acts at a scale the neighbourhood otherwise has no room for.

The piers and the plaza also host free outdoor programming through summer: film screenings, markets, fitness sessions and waterfront events. Much of it is drop-in.

The winter season

The rooftop converts for winter. In past seasons this has meant an ice rink on Pier 17 with the same view, plus seasonal bars and markets. The format has varied year to year, so confirm before planning around it.

The museum

The South Street Seaport Museum runs its own programme — exhibitions, printing demonstrations at Bowne & Co., talks, and sailing trips on the historic fleet in season. This is the most consistently interesting programming in the district and the least publicised.

Markets and the Tin Building

The restored Tin Building on the waterfront houses a food market with its own events and demonstrations. The cobbled streets host periodic markets and pop-ups, heaviest around the December holidays.

There is no single authoritative calendar for the district, which is why this page does not pretend to be one:

• Pier 17 publishes the rooftop concert calendar and on-sale dates separately
• Individual restaurants and the Tin Building run their own listings
